Covid changes things but there's still glass
Refract starts Thursday (10/15/2020)
Refract, the huge annual Seattle glass celebration, has had to change things a bit in this its second year. Many events will be virtual so you don't even have to leave home. Many of these will still be available even after Refract officially ends this Sunday. Other events will still occur In-person but with masks etc. to keep us all safe. Get the full schedule at RefractSeattle.org |
GlassAndDecor.com studio, er, yard and open garage tour October 17-18 in north Seattle is just one of the modified in-person Refract events. It is sponsored by FriendsInGlass.org. 20 artists fill 5 locations. Your editor is at site #2. Wander down to the garage between 10am and 5 pm either day and say hi. Each site has at least 1 glass artist but there are artists in other media as well. Bring your mask, use the hand-sanitizer provided, and keep proper distance. Debbie Patana, owner of Inspirations Glass in Chinook WA is retiring and selling off her stock. We wish her all the best in her new adventures. Contact her via the link above for an appointment: she'll be in the shop again October 24th.
Julia & Jason Banker, the new owners of Covenant Art Glass in Everett WA, are up and running (Stan and Colleen Price retired to eastern WA). Keep your local glass shop open during these difficult times by visiting as often as you can. Buying sheet glass on-line just can't compare to seeing exactly what you're getting. Please let me know of new places that sell supplies and/or give classes so I can update the Classes/Resources page. |
NEXT ISSUE: I want more glass time so this newsletter is going to become sporadic and/or be merged into the newsletter for the new Pacific NW Glass Guild (formerly the Oregon Glass Guild). They haven't got their new website (launches 11/15/2020?) or their free subscription form up yet so if you wish to subscribe to the Pacific NW Glass Guild newsletter you can fill out this form and I'll pass the info to them. Or just wait until you can fill in the form on their new website. You can go to their old website and read the current PNWGG newsletter.

Seattle Mosaic Arts is doing kits if you or your older kids need a project

Keep art in your community strong: Artists who make and sell their own work at art shows are having a tough time this year with so many shows cancelled. Even gallery sales are way down due to covid. Keep local artists in business so your community doesn't lose that set of skills. If you are sprucing up your home or giving holiday gifts, please seek out your local artists before ordering something mass produced. Our events page and gallery can give you a place to start.

Your favorite glassy event isn't here? Send us a note or post it to our moderated Facebook page.
We've simplified the Classes/Resources page. If you offer classes (or want to help someone who does) please see if I have you listed/linked correctly. If you have a specific class coming up please post it to our moderated Facebook page.
You sell/teach glass art and you're not in our Gallery? It's free. Without you and your other glass friends our database isn't nearly as useful to the the Pacific NW glass community. We want a photo of yourself at work for the artist directory and 3 images of your art for the gallery plus a bit more info so prospective buyers, galleries, students, and others can contact you.
