Pulling Together

How does our glass community pull itself together to put the interesting times of the past year truly in the past?
  • Share your new creations in a Facebook group or virtual show.
  • Attend art shows (see "Events" below).
  • Buy that special piece you've had your eye on (after all a "stimulus check" is to get the money out into the economy).
  • Share your skills by teaching a class: Zoom is pretty easy, I'll be glad to walk you through how to set it up. Even after we're comfortable in being in the same room with our students, hybrid classes will be common.
  • Volunteer to nurture art in whatever way you can: even someone who thinks they have no creative skill can help children make a glass mosaic table or help post events on the new Guild website.

The Pacific NW Glass Guild has launched its new website.

There is a new glass community resource I've been helping get off the ground. Visit the new  https://www.pnwglassguild.org/ and see for yourself.
  • Subscribe to the free nearly monthly newsletter and maybe even the Weekly Public News for event reminders
  • Attend the monthly meetings on a wide variety of topics via Zoom. Everyone is welcome.
  • Look through the Members' Gallery to find that artist you meant to buy from last year.
  • Learn about glass on the glass arts page and through the education videos
  • Fill out the "Classified" form to ask the members who does a particular type of custom work or a special class or find a buyer for a used kiln or whatever.
  • If you join the guild ($45/ year) you can submit your glass events to the public calendar so we can all see what's happening throughout the region.
  • Have fun at a member-only "Play Day" via Zoom and take advantage of the many more member benefits.

ArtInBloomSeattle.com Garden Art & Studio, er, Yard and Open Garage Tour

April 24-25, 10am to 5pm, will be our 7th annual spring garden art focused tour. 25 artists fill 8 locations. Media range from glass to metal to ceramics and stone. See how even lichen can be used to create art. Wear your mask, use the hand-sanitizer provided, and follow the one-way flow.

Fill out the drawing form at each site for a chance to win a piece of art by the artists at that site. All the artists are looking forward to seeing you and talk about their work in person again.

And we call your attention to two virtual shows which start later this month. Shop from the comfort of your computer screen:

Gathering of the Guilds April 30-May 2. About 40 glass artists and about as many from each of several other Guilds in the Portland area show off their talents. All sales and arrangements are directly through the artist's website or whatever contact mode the artist gives you.

Best of the Northwest April 22-May 10 has about 90 artists from all over the area. The Seattle area NW Art Alliance handles the payments and facilitates the process.

NEXT ISSUE: I'll be helping write the Pacific NW Glass Guild newsletter: subscribe (free) or join ($45/yr)

How'd They Do That?

Here's the video of my tack-fusing talk answering some of the questions I posed in the last issue. At PNWGlassGuild.org there's a link to this and lots of other educational videos. https://www.pnwglassguild.org/education
Some of the videos, like my Fossil Vitria Play Day require you to be a member to see them. At $45, the annual membership fee is cheaper than even 1 average-priced glass class. The Guild depends on your dues to pay for the website and its efforts to nurture glass throughout the region.

We hope to have members-only Play Days nearly every month. Even if you don't attend the Play Day itself there will be more and more videos on the website. You can even volunteer to lead a Play Day if you have a technique you want to explore with others.
