Why start this?

10/28/2016

The world needs more beautiful glass, not less. With the closing/moving of local art glass suppliers a number of talented artists are talking about giving up on glass. This would be an even greater loss. After a discussion at an artist gathering I decided that since I have the tools and skills to put together a newsletter and website I'll donate 3 years of doing that to see if it will help artists afford to continue with this medium. What can --you-- do to help keep the NW glass community strong and preserve/build these skills?
  • Subscribe to the newsletter?
  • Buy local glass art?
(find new work in the gallery, local artists among the members, or at an event)
  • Take classes? Teach (contact me to get your class listed)?
  • If you sell your work and have a website you can join the gallery. You'll need to submit 3 good photos of your work (in focus, uncluttered, 435 pixel wide jpg preferred) and one of you at your craft (272 px wide x 180 high). Title, process (blown glass, kilnformed etc.) and dimensions of each piece. We also need your website URL for the link.
  • Contribute information and photos to the newsletter?
  • Become a donor/sponsor (funds needed for 501(c)4 filing legal/accounting help, website registration, automation etc.)?
  • Volunteer some of your time to the group?
    • I'd like an assistant editor/ proof reader or even two
    • We should draw up some guidelines for members/gallery listings: 3 jurors?
    • Help with website maintenance: mostly changing information
    • I'm planning a "glass & decor" studio tour for October 21-22, 2017: Are you in NW Seattle and want to host a site? Want to show your work at a hosted site? Want to help make it work by taking signs around or other publicity stuff?

Please give additional ideas by adding a comment or by contacting me: karen (you know the symbol) SeymourStainedGlass.com or phone 206-525-1577.
